Overview
Brooklyn Bridge Park is an 85-acre waterfront park stretching 1.3 miles along the Brooklyn side of the East River, offering some of the most spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline anywhere in the city.
Highlights
- Jane's Carousel: A beautifully restored 1922 carousel housed in a stunning Jean Nouvel-designed glass pavilion at the water's edge.
- Pier 2 & 3: Active recreation piers with basketball courts, bocce ball, roller skating, and kayaking — all free or very affordable.
- Skyline Views: The Manhattan skyline views from the waterfront are simply unmatched, especially at sunset and after dark.
History
The park was built on abandoned commercial piers and industrial waterfront that had been inactive since the 1983 closure of the port. Designed by Michael Van Valkenburgh, it opened in phases between 2010 and 2018.
