Overview
Tokyo Skytree is the tallest structure in Japan and the tallest tower in the world at 634 meters. Its futuristic neo-lattice design dominates the eastern Tokyo skyline and offers sweeping observation decks.
Highlights
- Tembo Deck (350m): The main observation deck offering 360-degree panoramic views of the entire Kanto Plain, with Mt. Fuji visible on clear days.
- Tembo Galleria (450m): A higher, glass-walled spiral ramp offering an even more breathtaking perspective, seemingly floating above the clouds.
- Night Illumination: The tower changes its LED lighting scheme nightly, alternating between "Iki" (sky blue) and "Miyabi" (purple) color themes.
History
Completed in 2012 as a broadcast tower to replace Tokyo Tower's limited digital broadcasting range. Its height of 634m is a deliberate pun — the digits can be read as "Mu-Sa-Shi," the old name for the Tokyo region.
Visitor Tips
- Skip the Line: Book timed-entry "Fast Skytree" tickets online in advance to bypass the often 1–2 hour queues.
- Clear Days: Check the webcam feed before visiting — the views are dramatically better on clear winter days when Fuji is visible.
- Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
