Highlights
- The Setting: A former 19th-century station building with original platforms, now surrounded by reclaimed greenery and urban gardens — one of the most atmospheric addresses in northern Paris.
- Urban Farm: Chickens, bees, vegetable gardens, and a composting operation run directly on-site, integrated into the space's daily life.
- Events & Workshops: A packed calendar of flea markets, children's art classes, repair cafés, and community events throughout the year.
History
Gare Ornano opened in 1869 as part of the Petite Ceinture, the circular railway that once connected Paris's main stations. The line ceased passenger operations in 1934 and was progressively abandoned. In June 2014, La Recyclerie transformed the derelict station into an eco-responsible cultural space, becoming one of the defining venues of Paris's sustainable living movement.
Visitor Tips
- Weekends are the most vibrant time to visit, with the urban farm active and regular events running on the old platforms.
- The brunch is excellent — book ahead on weekends as it fills up quickly.
- Metro Porte de Clignancourt (Line 4) is a short walk away.
