Grossmünster is Zurich's most prominent church, a twin-towered Romanesque landmark on the Limmat that became the starting point of the Swiss Reformation when Huldrych Zwingli preached here from 1519.

Cabaret Voltaire is the birthplace of Dada—the avant-garde art movement founded here on 5 February 1916 by Hugo Ball, Tristan Tzara, and others. Now a bar, gallery, and cultural venue, it remains dedicated to artistic provocation.

Fraumünster is famous for Marc Chagall's five stained-glass windows (1970), which flood the chancel with jewel-toned biblical scenes. The Gothic church stands on the west bank of the Limmat opposite Grossmünster.

St. Peter's Church has the largest clock face in Europe (8.7 metres in diameter), a Zurich landmark visible from across the Old Town. The Romanesque and Baroque interior is quietly beautiful.
